HIGHVOL (1) proved too strong on debut over this route, winning the Anzac Day Stakes by a head. Does rise in the weights for this but has more upside than rivals as the only horse this century to win that race on debut. Expecting he goes close again. WARRIOR SMILE (2) was beaten 1.5 lengths by Highvol here last time off a narrow win at Sandown Lakeside prior. Has to turn the tables but has claims. GABLE (4) also comes through the Anzac Day Stakes, unsuited off a slow tempo there. Would've liked 1600m for him but he could land closer from the draw. MALDINI (5) was well supported in the Anzac Day Stakes, okay in sixth there without the best of luck. Possible improver having beaten THE OPPORTUNIST (3) prior.
